Sheltered

Pop-Ups throughout Miami

Faced with the rise in global weather emergencies, and continued slashing of arts funding, DNM Co-Director Hannah Baumgarten is turning to her history of site-responsive work with the creation of “Sheltered.”
For this climate-focused piece, performers will play out post-apocalyptic episodes, presenting survivalism as a cautionary tale with short performances popping up and occupying unexpected “weather-proof” locations throughout Mami-Dade County, such as parking garages, stairwells and hi-rise elevators.
The work will occur as a year-long series of these vignettes, telling the story of persistence and redemption, with “guerilla pop-ups”, from November through May. The work will engage accidental patrons and invite those following the DNM Instagram bread crumb trail to “catch” the scenes as they happen in person, or later online.
