The sun may be shining, but Dance NOW! Miami (DNM) welcomes the chill of the South Florida holiday season with their upcoming Program I. It will feature Winter’s Breath, a ballet celebrating our coldest months, and special guest New York’s Jon Lehrer Dance Company to share the stage, featuring their dynamic, athletic and powerful modern dance style.
Winter’s Breath is set to the striking sounds of Antonio Vivaldi, reimagined by Max Richter. It is a work of sweeping movement and crisp soundtrack and was created collaboratively by Dance NOW! Miami Co-Artistic Directors Hannah Baumgarten and Diego Salterini in 2015. The John Lehrer Dance Company will perform their piece, Here in Eden, a bold and poetic duet featuring Ricardo G. Barret and Cristiana Cavallo. Dance NOW! also welcomes former DNM dancer and rehearsal director Jenny Hegarty in a special guest appearance performing the solo There I am, Here.
This one-night-only program of dance will also feature some of DNM’s audience favorites including Point of Departure, and the love duet from Havisham!, as well as the 1914 work Ave Maria, from modern dance icon Isadora Duncan. DNM will also present one world premiere and one preview. Salterni’s Deco-de, set to composer George Gershwin’s “Lullaby,” is an homage to Art Deco design, inspired by the three archetypes of Jungian psychology. Baumgarten will share a first showing of 1933, a cabaret-inspired work addressing the rise of Nazi leader Adolph Hitler.
“We not only excited to revive some of our repertory works, but also to have Jon’s company join us. We know he will excite South Florida audiences.” said Salterini. “And their entire company will be back in May to present a full concert!”
